Front Porch House Concerts Blog

a blog about our monthly house concert hosted by Jon and Luana Eckhard

Welcome to our Blog

This writing will be the first of Front Porch House Concert Blogs. This will hopefully be a two-way forum where I will write about our series…the good, the bad and if need be, the ugly. I would love to hear feedback from you, our participants in person, or through the Internet.

First off, let me say how thankful we have been in growing our series to the point where we are now. Thanks to our audience, the artists, the agents, to Jim Williams at Swallow Hill Music, to Brian Patrick (our web designer and audio/ video guy), and to my wife Lu, for allowing all this to go on in our house.

Well sometimes this whole adventure is just surreal. From the time we put an artist on our wish list, to contacting the agent, going back and forth trying to secure all the details, to finally securing a date…then waiting for the date to arrive…it seems with all that build up, the actual show is over in the blink of an eye. Sort of like coming down from a high. I guess like most addicts ( yes some say I am becoming addicted to this); there is always the next “high” to get ready for.

Well, such was the case with our last show- Catie Curtis. Maybe our most exciting booking, and anticipated show. We have been huge fans of Catie’s music for years, and been trying to get her for the past 2 ½ years. The details came together, and the day arrived last Wednesday. Catie showed up hours before the show and hung out for the better part of the afternoon. If there is a nicer, more genuine, “what you see is what you get”, performer out there, we certainly don’t know of them. It was a joy to spend time getting to know her.

The show itself was fantastic as Catie played most of our requests (all 14 of them), and injected insights, stories and humor between them. We could have listened to her all night long.

She spent the night in our guest bedroom, stayed to chat and hangout more the next day, and then “poof”, she was gone.

I only hope we can look forward to her coming back next year….

Jon

    Hello Jon & Luana,

I stumbled onto your site as I was looking for Peter Mayer stuff to add to my own web site. We have much in common it appears….Peter Mayer for one thing. Presenting concerts and an obvious love for Music another.

As I read the portion of your entry where you discribe the ” whole ” experience that a presentor goes thru.. I just had to smile….

To me it often feels like Christmas as a child…the wish list, the hopeing, the WAITING …the performance… that special time you get to spend with your artist and then Poof in the blink of an eye gone…if we are lucky , we have a recording of the show so we can re live the moment forever.

Congrads on your venue and the great artist that you have signed. I have been going thru your video archive. Some of your artist I have seen live , some I have not and appreciate the chance to see them here.

Continued best wishes for you and all of the lucky folks who attend your shows. These home grown Venues are beyond special, and should never be taken for granted.

Hello Folks: I’m glad to hear that the Catie Curtis show went so well. If you liked that show, by all means, come to the Laura Love show on Feb. 15. Catie and Laura are good friends and have toured and performed together. Catie would recommend that you fill the house for Laura and Jen, so please follow her advice. If you would like to see more about Laura, please visit her site: www.LauraLove.net. Happy New Year, Boulder, we hope you are enjoying your snow!

Best wishes from Laura’s manager, and see you soon!

Well I sure wish I lived in Boulder instead of on the east coast. This sounds like a perfect venue. I happened on your site checking up on Laura Love’s shows and have hung around listening to the music of the artists you’ve hosted. We’ll be adding Boulder to our list of vacation spots! BTW, your home is beautiful.
In the meantime, those who can get to Boulder should go see Laura and Jen. You’ll sing, you’ll laugh, you might even yodel. Laura’s bass playing has to be experienced, her voice is amazing, and we always look forward to Jen’s solos as well.

Just checking out your website after Tom Kimmel’s latest newsletter. My husband and I hosted Tom last spring. What a great night. Tom is so amazing.

We have Johnsmith coming in February (his second time with us), he is the perfect house concert performer.

Continued success with your house concerts,

    Hiya Front Porch Folk!

I was out trolling the internets for any new things Catie Curtis and came across your videos. What a great line up you’ve had through your home…I’m jealous, wish I had a place I could do the same!

Just thought you’d like to know that you’ve made the highlight reel over on the latest CatieCurtis.net FanBlog.

Keep enjoying what you’re doing…and thank you for doing it!
